Casa da Coroa — the Crown House — has stood on the church square of Alcantarilha since the early 1900s, built for João Narciso D'Oliva. Its red-oxide facade and wrought-iron balconies still command the Largo da Igreja, directly opposite the parish church. In 2003 it was classified a building of Municipal Interest.
Behind that protected facade it has now been fully rehabilitated: seismically reinforced, thermally and acoustically insulated to current code, and rebuilt into six self-contained residences — while the original mural paintings and the central staircase have been kept and restored. The six homes range from a one-bedroom apartment to a three-bedroom duplex, across the ground and first floors — the upper-floor homes adding mezzanine space and private terraces of up to 96 m². Three are offered furnished. Every home comes with a private parking space, heat-pump hot water, Mitsubishi air conditioning in the living room and bedrooms, and a fully fitted kitchen with induction hob, oven and built-in fridge-freezer and dishwasher.
